Holy Hill is a special place that you need to visit if you live in southeastern Wisconsin.
Just a short drive from Milwaukee, more than 500,000 people from all over the world visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary at Holy Hill each year.
You can admire the beautiful architecture of the neo-Romanesque church built in 1926, enjoy the peaceful environment and expansive views, and even climb the scenic tower. ⠀
It’s one of our favorite easy hikes with kids around Milwaukee, but it’s definitely one of the more challenging ones on the list.
Autumn is the *perfect* season to go because the views of the changing leaves are incredible.⠀
Once you park in the lot, just start climbing the stairs until you get to the scenic tower.
The scenic tower stretches 192 feet at its base, and has 178 stairs.
It’s actually kinda scary, in a good-adventures-are-kinda-scary type of way. ⠀
Once you get to the top, the view is absolutely incredible.
We went on a sunny clear day and we could see the Milwaukee skyline.
This place is truly majestic. ⠀
Plan to spend a little time walking around and exploring the grounds, too. You can go inside if there isn’t a service going on, but no food and stay quiet.
There’s a snack shop right off the parking lot if you get hungry.
